We're back in Connecticut now after two weeks visiting family in Iowa. Henry was a fantastic traveller. We traveled with him as an "infant in arms", so really it wasn't that different from sitting with him on the couch. He just ate and slept and pooped like normal. The hardest thing was doing diaper changes on the plane. On the way out I changed him on my lap, which he loved but we were flirting with disaster. On the way home he had a big poop just before we took off and I didn't want to change that in my lap, so I had to wait until we reached cruising level. But, we had turbulence so we had to wait for that to clear. And then, I had to wait until the beverage cart was finished because the aisles were so small. I think he had to sit in that poopy diaper for two hours-- I felt awful but he was fine.
Pooping stories aside (because there are many more I could share). Once we were home I started a cleaning frenzy. We arrived home on a Tuesday and I was going to go back to work on Friday. And somehow, I could not justify returning to work if my home life wasn't in control. So, the first floor looks somewhat decent now and I'm going to try my hardest to stay on top of things. Henry is 7 weeks old now and this postpartum slob life has to come to an end.
What else has to come to an end is my postpartum snacking. I've been eating junk and fast food indiscriminately because I was healing, breastfeeding, and exhausted. At this point I'm pretty much healed so that's no longer an excuse. As for breastfeeding, what I'm eating isn't the best nutrition for him, even if I can have more calories than even when I was pregnant. And with Henry sleeping for a 5-6 hour stretch most nights (isn't he an awesome baby?) that's also not an excuse. Going back to work also has me back in my closet and disappointed at how much no longer fits. I'm still up 15-20 lbs from my prepregnancy weight, which was technically overweight anyway. I know I should expect to take as long to lose the weight as it took me to put on, but it's not going to happen on it's own.
In general, I'm just working on getting my act together and adjusting to our new life with baby, where I'm not a slob and a junk food addict! As an update to my last post, Henry is our little chunky monkey and is packing on the pounds. He's growing so fast he's in size 2 diapers and 3 month clothes already. I'm also coming to terms with this breastfeeding/formula supplementing regime. Pumping doesn't bother me like it used to. And, my supply doesn't seem to be suffering at all since I do pump when we give him a bottle. And, I have to say, it is nice to have Tom helping with Henry's feedings at night and I can slip back into bed.
Here's to hoping, "new normal" has me blogging regularly again.
